By the BCM Team
Behind every financial plan we create lies a personal story and reason why we chose this work, and it’s why we care so deeply about helping you reach your goals. At Beck Capital Management, our team of financial advisors brings different experiences, passions, and perspectives to the table, but we’re united by a common purpose: empowering people to take control of their financial future.
We wanted to share a little more about why we became financial advisors in the first place, and what that means for the way we serve you.
Melanie Johnson: Leading With Empathy and Education
My journey into financial advising began in a kindergarten classroom, where I learned the value of trust, clear communication, and meeting people where they are. These skills continue to shape my approach, but my career is defined by much more than my teaching roots. As a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst® and investment advisor at Beck Capital Management, I specialize in guiding clients through major life transitions with both compassion and proven financial strategies.
My passion for financial planning was sparked when I saw how overwhelmed people—especially women—felt during divorce and other pivotal moments. This inspired me to launch my own divorce workshop in 2006 and later become the National Director for Second Saturday Divorce Workshops, empowering others to turn personal challenges into new beginnings. One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is seeing clients move from uncertainty to confidence—and knowing that my own journey has inspired others to pursue careers in financial advising.
Today, I combine empathy with deep proficiency to help clients experience clarity, stability, and confidence, whether they’re navigating change or planning for the future. My mission is to help every client feel empowered to take control of their financial destiny.
Justin Simmons: Coaching Clients Through Life’s Big Wins
My fascination with finance started young, and studying at UT’s McCombs School of Business only deepened that interest. I’ve learned that finance, to me, is about being a coach and partner as clients pursue lifelong dreams like retiring comfortably, taking a dream vacation, or funding their grandchild’s education.
I became a financial advisor just before the 2008 market crash, which was an experience that shaped everything. From the start, I realized this work is less about numbers and more about people, and building trust, fostering resilience, and nurturing relationships.
The most meaningful client relationships are built on open communication and mutual trust. That becomes especially clear during tough times. I’m proud to stand beside my clients through every twist and turn, committed to their long-term success.
Jerry McIlhon: A Lifetime of Helping People Retire With Dignity
My path into financial services started in 1986 with life insurance, but I’ve been drawn to financial planning ever since seeing how employees at my father’s business built real wealth through diligent saving. This experience showed me that financial freedom isn’t reserved only for the wealthy, but is possible for anyone with the right guidance, habits, and a long-term plan.
Over the decades, I’ve helped clients plan, save, and ultimately retire with confidence. Many of my clients aren’t overnight millionaires; they’re everyday people who’ve worked hard and saved steadily. It’s incredibly rewarding to sit with a client and say, “Yes, you’re going to be okay. You’ve built something real and important.”
What I value most are clients who appreciate a thoughtful road map and tailored advice. It’s the long-term journey and witnessing plans evolve and dreams come to life that keeps me inspired and committed to this work every day.
Collin Osbahr: A Trusted Partner for Busy Professionals
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial mindset and a desire to make a real difference in people’s lives. After graduating from Baylor University in 2019, I became a financial advisor because I wanted to collaborate with people I care about and help them focus on what matters most— whether that’s their family, business, or passion—without sacrificing their financial well-being.
My ideal clients are high-achieving individuals, including business owners, executives, and retirees who simply don’t have the bandwidth to manage every aspect of their wealth. I’m here to step in as a trusted partner and keep their wealth working as hard as they are.
The most rewarding moments? When clients hit meaningful milestones and I get to say, “We did this together.” That’s why I show up every day with focus, discipline, and a deep sense of responsibility.
